The Houston Texans finished the season with 3 wins this past year. If not for a tie in their opening game against the Indianapolis Colts, they would have tied for the worst record in the league. They find themselves with the 2nd overall pick in this upcoming NFL Draft. It is anticipated that they select a quarterback with this pick, but are still needy in many other positions.
One position they are not in need of is Free Safety. Last year with the 37th overall pick in the draft they selected Baylor Bear Jalen Pitre.
Cory Giddings from Bleacher Report labeled him a 2nd round “potential impact player”, his pro-comparison being Budda Baker.
Pitre showed Texans nation that he was everything his scouting report said and some.
He led all safeties with 147 combined tackles. Yet, did not get mentioned for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Partially because of his teams lack of performance.
With DeMeco Ryans coming in as Head Coach for the 2023-2024 season Pitre’s game can take another step. This year we saw second year safety Talanoa Hufanga make strides under Ryans with the San Fransisco 49ers.
Pitre will improve off of his rookie season. Next year he will no longer be under the radar.
